To celebrate the very last day of Russell’s solo show at studio1.1 the gallery is hosting a finissage event. As well as a POP-UP SHOP with stickers, cardboard heads, paintings, little cardboard pencil drawings, bags, Christmas baubles - and whatever else he brings along - we will also be officially launching Russell’s book FIVE HUNDRED SMALL CARDBOARD PORTRAITS.
FIVE HUNDRED SMALL CARDBOARD PORTRAITS is the book of the five-year project that Russell has been working on, making pencil drawings of cardboard faces which have been avidly collected throughout the world. The book presents images of all 500 portraits, works in progress, photos of portraits in collectors’ homes, as well as essays about the project and background information. It is published in a limited edition of 500 copies with the first 100 copies being special collector’s editions. Special Collector’s Edition £100 / Standard Edition £20
The closing of the exhibition also gives visitors the opportunity to buy any postcards (50p each) from the work ‘Self-Portrait as a Much More Successful Artist Showing at a Major Institution’, a work consisting of 120 different postcard designs which serve as part archive/part retrospective of works by Russell from the last 30 years.
