Artist talk: John Kørner
28 Nov 2025 6.30-7.30pm
John Kørner's work often uses abstract motifs addressing geopolitical ideas and contemporary issues such as globalism, consumerism, climate change and war.
Kørner's vibrant and visually saturated paintings and prints, site-specific murals, sculptures and installations, reveal a fascination with the aesthetics of colour and format, while depicting difficult political and social issues. Figures are accompanied by floating thought bubbles as they roam vast landscapes, supermarkets and beaches, or enter doorways, climb stairs and ride elevators. Kørner will be in conversation with independent curator and writer Fatoş Üstek.
This talk forms part of the public programme supporting the free exhibition Nordic noir: works on paper from Edvard Munch to Mamma Andersson (until 22 March 2026).
The British Museum would like to thank the Danish, Norwegian and Swedish Embassies for supporting the travel of artists to facilitate the public programme for Nordic noir.
