Overview

 Abstract Space is a solo exhibition that explores the power of drawing as a meditative and immersive practice. Composed of intricate white line work on deep black paper, these works transform the act of mark-making into a journey through abstract, introspective landscapes. The drawings, formed by assembling multiple A3 sheets into large-scale compositions, create portals into imagined realms - windows that invite contemplation and self-reflection. The installation of those drawings can be adapted to the space, with individual sheets either arranged with small gaps to enhance the window-like effect or combined as a seamless whole, offering flexibility in presentation. Additionally, a live drawing performance at the exhibition opening will integrate sound and movement, allowing the audience to engage directly with the artistic process.

The exhibition is demonstrating how line, repetition, and abstraction can create deeply immersive experiences that transcend traditional notions of drawing. At a time when the world is increasingly chaotic, these works provide a sanctuary - an opportunity to momentarily step away from external noise and reconnect with inner landscapes. Through its dynamic installation, modular adaptability, and performative elements, Abstract Space offers a compelling and timely exploration of drawing as both an artistic and meditative practice.

 Ram Samocha is an artist, curator and educator, presently resides in Brighton, UK. Samocha’s work focuses on the issues of personal and global transformation and combines drawing with video, installation, sound, and live performance. Samocha often mixes modern and traditional drawing techniques while searching for new ways to combine between two and three dimensions.

Recognized nationally and internationally, Samocha’s work is part of various museums and private collections and has been shown in the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany,, Israel, the Netherlands, Mexico, Canada and the United States.

Ram Samocha is the founder and artistic director of Draw to Perform, an international community for drawing performance practice. Since 2013 Draw to Perform organizing international symposiums and festivals, work with and support emerging and established artists, collaborations with art institutions, and run educational residencies and workshops.
