Richard Calvocoressi in Conversation with Nicholas Serota
13 Nov 2025 6.30-7.30pm

Join us for a special event to hear exhibition curator Richard Calvocoressi discuss the artwork of Howard Hodgkin with Nicholas Serota. Together they will reflect on the life, work, and enduring legacy of Hodgkin, one of Britain’s greatest artists of the last half century and more. The discussion will be chaired by Pitzhanger’s new director, Rebecca Lyons.
This is Calvocoressi’s first public talk on curating Howard Hodgkin: In a Public Garden, an exhibition exploring Hodgkin’s fascination with light, colour, and nature. Serota, the Chair of Arts Council England and formerly Director of Tate, curated three exhibitions of Hodgkin’s work including a major retrospective at Tate Britain in 2006.
The conversation will discuss the different artworks and suites of work featured in the exhibition, as well as Hodgkin’s creative journey, his deep connections with Impressionism and post-Impressionism, his passion for India, and other influences that have shaped his art. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear two renowned curators share their perspectives on a much-loved, internationally celebrated artist.
