Sotheby’s Private Sales is thrilled to present Sotheby’s at Hamiltons, our first ever collaboration with the historic London gallery. Nestled in the vibrant epicentre of Mayfair, Hamiltons provides a dramatic stage for this showcase of dynamic Modern and Contemporary masterworks, carefully curated by Sotheby’s.

Established in 1977 and owned by Tim Jefferies since 1983, Hamiltons is one of the world’s leading galleries specialising in both Modern and Contemporary photography. Tucked behind the striking red brick façade and neighbouring the prestigious Connaught Hotel, visitors feel a sense of exclusivity entering the gallery through its signature, slender glass door. What lies ahead is a wonderland of dark sensuous gallery space with polished floors and soaring, double vaulted ceilings that create a basilica-like interior that is truly one of a kind.

Immersed in the art world for over 40 years, Tim Jefferies is a pioneer of photography and has been instrumental in building the primary and secondary markets of many important photographers such as Irving Penn, Richard Avedon and Helmut Newton. Jefferies’ network of private collectors extends well beyond the scope and genre of photography and he is renowned for presenting sophisticated and elegant exhibitions that adorn the walls of his magnificent gallery, making him the perfect partner for Sotheby’s Private Sales.

otheby’s at Hamiltons will feature exceptional examples by artists such as David Hockney, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Yves Klein, Roy Lichtenstein and Gerhard Richter - as well as a pinnacle work by the Surrealist master, Rene Magritte.
