About ‘Painters on Painting’

‘Painters on Painting’ is an exploratory event where artists and artist tutors facilitate conversations around exhibitions at Hauser & Wirth. These conversations aim to bring an audience of university students who are interested in painting into the conversation where thoughts and feelings on contemporary painting and artistic process can be expressed freely.

About Avery Singer

Avery Singer was born and raised in New York NY. Growing up in a creative environment, Singer experimented with photography, film and drawing, but during those years, she never considered working with paint. In 2008, Singer studied at the Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and in 2010, she received her B.F.A. from Cooper Union, New York NY. During her studies, Singer engaged in performance art, video making, sculpture utilizing carpentry, metal casting and welding.

After graduation, she discovered her chosen art form via an unanticipated experiment with SketchUp—a program used by her peers to design exhibition spaces—by airbrushing a black-and-white painting based on a digital illustration. Since then, Singer has employed the binary language of computer programs and industrial materials in order to remove the trace of the artist’s hand, whilst engaging the tradition of painting and the legacy of modernism.

Please be advised that this event will be filmed and photographed for use on the Hauser & Wirth website, social media and in other marketing materials.
