Performance: Sam Williams

13 Jul 2023 6-9pm

Chisenhale Gallery
London E3 5QZ

Overview

Artist Sam Williams stages a 3-hour live choreographic installation in conversation with Kang's commission. This performance is a continuation of Williams’s Salvage Rhythms series, which combines performance, film, text and collage to explore what we as humans can learn from observing the multispecies entanglements we are a part of. At Chisenhale the work will be performed by dancers Temitope Ajose, Karen Callaghan and Iro Costello and feature a soundscape created in collaboration with musician Roly Porter. Visitors are invited to come and go as they please during the performance.

Sam Williams is an artist with a multidisciplinary practice, working across moving-image, collage, choreography and text. Sam is based in London where he is a resident at Somerset House Studios. He has exhibited and screened work at institutions including Arnolfini, Baltic39, Siobhan Davies Dance, Somerset House, Tate Britain, Studio Voltaire and South Kiosk (UK), She Will (Norway); Kino Arsenal, Akademie der Kunst, Tanzhalle Wisenberg and B3 Biennale (Germany). His ongoing research focuses on multispecies entanglements, ecological systems, bodies-as-worlds and folk mythologies and how they inspire ideas for present and future ways of non-human-centric living.
