Overview

Hear from pioneering choreographer Yvonne Rainer as she shares stories about her landmark 1966 dance, Trio A

Yvonne Rainer (born 1934) is a choreographer, dancer, writer and filmmaker based in New York, USA. She played a key role in revolutionising dance in the 60s and early 70s, inspiring many generations of contemporary performers. Rainer will be in conversation with Catherine Wood, Interim Director, Tate Modern, and author of the book Yvonne Rainer: The Mind Is A Muscle (2007), and Dr Martin Hargreaves, dramaturg, writer and performer, and leader of the Rose Choreographic School.

Please note that Yvonne Rainer will not be in-person at Tate Modern, she will be joining the conversation remotely.

Celebrating the 60th anniversary of Rainer’s groundbreaking work Trio A, dancers perform the piece continuously in a staging devised for Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 July 2026. These performances will be free and open to all.
