Overview

We are pleased to present Katy Sayers Green: Noah’s Woods, mapping humanity’s fragile relationship between myth, mystery, and the natural world.

Katy Sayers Green constructs visual topographies in which myth and ecology converge - where humanity’s entanglement with the natural world can be seen as both sites of wonder and of instability. Her practice is seen through the act of witness - through observing the environmental transformations that have unfolded throughout her lifetime.

Her paintings operate as rogue maps, tracing our fragile position within an ever-shifting terrain of climate volatility, biodiversity collapse, political instability, and cultural memory. Here, ancient stories serve as a source of wisdom and as vehicles through which to consider the precarity of the present and the future. Each work charts a set of relationships increasingly defined by rupture, occupying a liminal space between humanity and our ecosystems. Drawing on the symbolism in poetry, classical mythology, and religious narratives, Katy explores motifs that have long helped humanity orient itself amongst time, space, nature, and culture. Myths and stories rise through each surface, with forms appearing and dissolving, like chimeras glimpsed momentarily before receding.

Katy’s painting process is one of uncertainty, of faith in intuition, and of truth and belief. Her development always steers towards compelling directions, yet without knowing whether such complex subject matter can ever fully be expressed. The resulting works hold this difficulty as a core part of their structure. They propose no singular reading, but instead they open a field of perceptual ambiguities where different meanings continuously rearrange themselves - a kaleidoscope in perpetual rotation.

Noah’s Woods invites us into a space of attention and contemplation, where the boundaries between the real and the mythic remain permeable, and where the urgency of ecological crisis is inseparable from the stories through which we have long sought to comprehend our natural world. In mapping these entanglements, Katy Sayers Green charts a path that is as much about the present moment as it is about our deep cultural histories - through which our understanding of the world continues to unfold.
