Overview

S for Southend marks its fifth anniversary with a vibrant and diverse collection of works drawn from across the breadth of Focal Point Gallery’s Learning and Engagement Programme. This milestone exhibition brings together contributions from participants of all ages and backgrounds, spanning projects from Blank Slate, our youth-led programme, to Contemporary Elders, a collective of older adults redefining creative ageing.

Curated collaboratively by members of the programme and participants themselves, the exhibition showcases the rich tapestry of creativity cultivated in Southend over the past year. Through photography, film, sculpture, sound, and mixed media, the show offers a snapshot of the ideas, experiences, and voices that have shaped our workshops, residencies, and outreach projects.

More than a reflection of artistic output, S for Southend 2026 is a celebration of community, growth, and collaboration. It champions the belief that art should be made with, by, and for the people of Southend – and that creativity thrives when everyone has a seat at the table.
