Signe Pierce: New World Aura

2 Oct-8 Nov 2025

ANNKA KULTYS GALLERY
London N1 7LB

Overview

Annka Kultys Gallery is pleased to present New World Aura, the fifth solo exhibition by American artist Signe Pierce (b. 1988, Arizona). On view from 2 October to 8 November 2025, the exhibition inaugurates the gallery’s new 280 sqm space in London and coincides with its tenth anniversary. In New World Aura, Pierce brings together two new bodies of work: NEOLEXICON (2025), a large-scale video animation comprising nearly 200 neologisms; HOLOCLOUDS (2025), a series of prismatic light projections onto canvas that expand her engagement with abstraction. Together, these works mark a significant moment in Pierce’s career, extending her exploration of reality and image into new formal and conceptual registers.

Since coining the term “reality artist” early in her artistic career, Pierce has worked across performance, photography, installation, and video to examine the intersections of media, perception, and identity. Her breakout film, American Reflexxx (2015) brought widespread attention to her artistic approach. The film documents an unscripted performance in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in which Pierce, clad in mirrored mask and neon outfit, provoked a volatile response from bystanders. In the years following, her practice has expanded to include installations exploring light and projections, digital archives of consciousness, and meditative explorations of reality as both spectacle and philosophy.

At the centre of New World Aura is NEOLEXICON, a ten-minute black-and-white video animation compiling nearly two hundred words in bold, block typeface that have been coined by the artist. From Hyperception to The Hatrix, these neologisms flash on the screen, aiming to define and design a new vocabulary for navigating contemporary existence: describing systems of control (Authoriterrorism), cycles of unconscious violence (Egosystems), and the feedback loops of mediated life (Scroll Hole, Immedia). The lexis also extends towards terms of mindfulness and evolution, offering language for unique states of consciousness and enlightenment (Bloomstate, Neon Renaissance, Holosophy). These contrasting concepts operate as a diagnostic tool, at once naming the mechanics of the present and opening onto more speculative contemplations of the mind and the nature of reality itself.

In dialogue with NEOLEXICON are the HOLOCLOUDS (2025), a series of prismatic light projections cast onto canvas. Expanding her engagement with abstraction, these works appear painterly yet immaterial, their surfaces animated by drifting veils of violet, green, magenta, and electric blue. Pierce describes them as “inner iridescences”, or abstractions drawn from trance states. Evoking auroras, cloud formations, or shifting topographies, they envelop the viewer in an atmosphere that is both meditative and unstable, suggesting the fragility of perception itself, and our shifting, tumultuous times.

New World Aura forms a dialogue between clarity and haze, between linguistic precision and sensory immersion. Where NEOLEXICON asserts a sharp black-and-white new vocabulary of our lived reality, the HOLOCLOUDS dissolve language into colour and light.

TICKETING
Reflecting Pierce’s call for reprogramming systems, Annka Kultys Gallery introduces a new ticketing model. All visitors are asked to RSVP and purchase a ticket, which is fully redeemable toward the acquisition of prints or the gallery’s signature tote, with 50–100% of the fee returned directly to the artist. Attending thus becomes an act of collecting, a gesture of solidarity, and a revaluation of artistic labour.
