Becky Lyon: The Wetness of the Encounter
26 Sep-22 Nov 2025

Artist and researcher Becky Lyon’s experimental work communicates the sensory experience of being in/with/of the landscape. Inspired by philosopher Laura U. Marks, she explores how we might “retain the wetness of the encounter” with nature when we document it. This ‘wetness’ is the immediate, sensorial nature of an experience. What is its rhythm? How does the air taste? The ground feel?
Becky uses materials like paint, fired ceramics, wire and paper to turn her sketchbook notes, captured out in the field, into three-dimensional installations. These translated notes attempt to create a more sensuous invitation for the viewer.
Becky remarks, “the imagery we use to depict nature and the emotions they invoke become an important part of how we rebuild our relationship to nature in times of crisis.”
You are invited to explore this curious exhibition of sculptural installations, objects and moving images as a way of reflecting on and inspiring your own multi-sensory encounters with nature.
