Joan Snyder: Body & Soul Late opening, tour & music

4 Feb 2025 6.30-7.30pm

Thaddaeus Ropac
London W1S 4NJ

Overview

Join us for a late opening and last chance to see Body & Soul, the most comprehensive presentation of Joan Snyder’s work in Europe to date. Writer and curator Hettie Judah will lead a walk-through of the exhibition, which begins in the mid-1960s and ends with a group of paintings Snyder has made within the last few months. Music is not only an organising concept for the Snyder’s abstract compositions but a central pillar in her artmaking process, and a soundtrack of her favourite music will play throughout the evening.

Hettie Judah is a regular contributor to The Guardian, Frieze, The Times Literary Supplement, and Apollo magazine. Her recent and forthcoming shows include the Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood which opened at the Arnolfini in Bristol in March 2024, and tours to DCA Dundee in April 2025, and Gate of Horns: Myths of Resistance, Symbols of Defiance which opens at Carl Freedman Gallery in Margate on 22 February. As a public speaker and broadcaster, she can be heard on programs such as BBC Radio 4’s Front Row. Her recent books include How Not To Exclude Artist Mothers (and other parents) (Lund Humphries, 2022), Lapidarium: The Secret Lives of Stones (John Murray, London, 2022) and Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood (Thames & Hudson, 2024).
