Sampler: Gribs & El Morgan

Overview

Taking its shape from needlework samplers, a fragmentary textile form used to practise and compile patterns, this event brings DJ Gribs and artist El Morgan into a taut and tangled dialogue, in response to an invitation to test out works and research in progress.

Gribs will present a textural DJ performance, stitching approximations, impressions and souvenirs.

El Morgan will present moving image, fragmented stories and works in progress.

Sampler introduces a live program over several months, which grows out of Raven Row’s history as a site of silk production. Sampler is curated by Raven Row's Digital Manager & Communications Coordinator Clo Page. 

Gribs is a DJ and radio host who wields sonic disorientation, slippages and theatrical bathos to a variety of ends. As a DJ she has performed at venues including Tate Modern, Cafe Oto, Institute of Contemporary Arts, Royal Academy of Arts and MADEIRADiG. She currently holds a monthly radio residency on NTS and was the co-curator of independent label TT between 2017-2021.

El Morgan is an artist and writer who explores our entanglement with other species. This has included serenading a spider, making a diamond from the dead creatures of the River Thames and embracing a giant green sea anemone. Her recent work has been shown with the Serpentine Gallery, the Unit Gallery and Castlefield gallery. 

The event will take place in Raven Row’s Gallery 2, which is wheelchair-accessible via a door in Frying Pan Alley.
