A Space for How to: Wait

Overview

Join us for A Space for How to a series of monthly events expanding on our current exhibition Holding a Heart in Artifice by Abbas Zahedi. The series of events will activate Zahedi's exhibition space and focus on the gallery as a point of gathering and intimate exchange.

In the Waiting Room is a workshop led by Resting Up Collective that will examine different categories and qualities of waiting with participants, opening up a space for creative responses. What does it mean to wait? Can we find pleasure in waiting? Inspired by Zahedi’s Holding a Heart in Artifice, readings, and images, there will be a series of discussions, and opportunities to write and draw around this topic. We aim for this to be a generative space in which to think about what it means to wait and how this impacts and engages with rest. Resting Up Collective’s approach and workshops are informed by our experiences of chronic illness and disability, and this workshop is open to anyone interested in discussing waiting and rest in a cooperative setting.

A Space for How to invites practitioners to engage with Zahedi’s ongoing investigations into care and grief and to deliver skills and knowledge sharing sessions. These closed sessions will offer a space of conviviality, an informal and supportive environment, to explore the themes in Zahedi’s practice as well as alternative institutional modes of collective commoning. The sessions will involve guided exercises and discussions as well as provide an opportunity for us to think about how art, galleries and the public are interconnected through mutual support systems.
