Artist Talk: Louisa Buck in conversation with Sonia Boyce

10 Mar 2023 7-8pm

Firstsite
Colchester CO1 1JH

Overview

In April 2022, artist Sonia Boyce won the Venice Biennale’s top Golden Lion prize with her work Feeling Her Way.

Join Sonia in conversation with art critic Louisa Buck as she discusses her creative story leading up to this success, the making of her exhibition, winning the award, its impact on her work and plans for the future.

As with all the artists in this series, Louisa will also be asking Sonia from her creative perspective, what is she feels is most important for us to focus on as one society, post-covid.

Shown 23 April – 27 November 2022 in Venice, Italy (and soon to be presented at Turner Contemporary, 4 February – 8 May 2023), Feeling Her Way brings together video works featuring five Black female musicians (Poppy Ajudha, Jacqui Dankworth MBE, Sofia Jernberg, Tanita Tikaram and composer Errollyn Wallen CBE) who were invited to improvise, interact and play with their voices – embodying feelings of freedom, power and vulnerability.
