Louise Giovanelli - COLLECTION SPOTLIGHT

14 Oct-17 Dec 2022

Grundy Art Gallery
Blackpool FY1 1PU

Overview

In 2016, Grundy Art Gallery presented Louise Giovanelli’s first solo exhibition in a public gallery and museum. For that exhibition Louise generated a series of new paintings that responded to works in the Grundy’s collection. Six years later, we are re-showing two works from that exhibition; works that were later acquired into the Grundy’s permanent collection.

For the next in Grundy’s ongoing series of Collection Spotlight exhibitions, these two works are shown alongside some of the works that informed them. Included are works from the collection that feature the Grundy’s founders, John and Cuthbert Grundy. These works are also being shown at this time in recognition of the fact that October is also Grundy’s birthday month with the purpose built Gallery first opening its doors to the public 111 years ago on October 26th.

Louise Giovanelli is now a contemporary painter with an established National and a growing International reputation. She has become recognised for her ability to create deeply evocative and luminous artworks that demonstrate her ongoing interest in the exploration of paint, painting and light.

It is also fitting therefore that Louise has played a role as advisor in the research and development of our accompanying exhibition, Regard The Light, alongside which additional works by Giovanelli are being displayed.
