Overview

This season we delve into the dark and explore psychoanalyst Carl Jung's concept of "the shadow". These films span the last century and probe those ignored or repressed parts of our collective unconscious. What happens when they surface?
Ki-Woo Kim lives with his poor but enterprising and resourceful family in a cavernous ramshackle dwelling below the streets of Seoul. One day he bluffs his way into a job tutoring one of the children of the wealthy Park Family.

Living outside the city in their clean haven of contemporary architecture, calm, ease, and hired help, he finds them and their world curious and enticing. He hatches a plan to get more of a foothold. The haves, the have-nots and the worlds they inhabit collide here, bringing everything off-kilter and leaving a sense of impending chaos.

A unique look at class that highlights the depths of systematically keeping people in poverty as our collective shadow. The justified rage of socially disaffected people is in full display here - what happens when those trapped in the depths come up and confront those that kept them there? A thriller, satire, black comedy, and profound social commentary rolled into a smart, stylistically slick, and nuanced piece that packs a punch and leaves a lasting impression.
