Overview

Into the Shade is a new body of work by Lucy Hutchinson, which explores the relationship between printmaking, witchcraft, and biotechnology from a personal perspective. Lucy's work investigates how fictions relating to gender, social class and regionalism continue to haunt our world today and speculates on how these could be disrupted in the future.

Created during her artist residency at FACT, Into the Shade uses the Lancashire Witches as a starting point to blend fact and fiction together. The works present a metaphysical world that uses ritual and bioprinting to transform archaic narratives and offer new ways of existing in the world.

Lucy Hutchinson is a recipient of the Jerwood Arts x FACT Fellowship. This annual fellowship appoints 3 emerging artists, curators, creative technologists, critical thinkers, or cultural activists, from any background, to support their potential as producers of the future.

These new works by Lucy are presented in our new gallery space designed by Chila Kumari Singh Burman.
