27 Jul 2022 6.30-8pm

Nottingham Contemporary

Overview

The Adventure Playground: Architectures of Contemporary Play is a series of exploratory talks and propositions that investigates processes of play and imagination and their role in built environments and the designed spaces of playgrounds in Britain. It brings forward the architectural and political history of playgrounds as dedicated spaces for children across contemporary cities and centres on the idea of ‘creating worlds’.

“Street education” or the city as a sandpit.

In this talk, Gabriela Burkhalter will explore how children can be a part of a city and society through a comparative discussion into the work of design activits Colin Ward and Aldo van Eyck. Through this discussion, photographic and film materials will be used from the digital archives of The Playground Project, to discuss the audience’s experience and find new ways to use the city of today as a learning environment.
