Beth Shapeero: The Shape of Things

19 Nov 2021-6 Mar 2022

The Tetley
Leeds LS10 1JQ

Overview

In collaboration with learners from Leeds City College, artist Beth Shapeero presents a new participatory project, exhibition and public art work that explore abstract gestures drawn from the shapes in our everyday surroundings.

During workshops at The Tetley, site visits and unstructured social time with the students, Shapeero will introduce repetitive and meditative processes to encourage her collaborators to make quickly and lose caution. Using predominantly painting and printmaking, the group will produce an abundance of tiny and large-scale works, which use rhythm and pace to explore dynamic form and colours. Shapeero aims to make space for bold work to emerge by encouraging an un-selfconscious approach to creating.

As both exhibition and participatory project The Shape of Things introduces therapeutic creative processes as a toolkit or set of instructions for slowing down, seeing the world around us and making to support our mental health and wellbeing needs.

Beth Shapeero is Glasgow based artist. She gained her BA (Hons) Fine Art Nottingham Trent University in 2008 and graduated from M.Litt Fine Art Practice at Glasgow School of Art in 2012.
