The exhibition titled THIS ME ME ME IS US features new work made by the artist in the lead-up to his exhibition at Kölnischer Kunstverein opening in February. From ‘Did I say I was raped‘ to ‘I Want to be Happy. I had sarna*’ Costa’s latest works harness language and text, crudely painted on pieces of foam mount board where sentiment and tone accelerates from the confessional to the amusing almost as quickly as he paints each word. Lyrical and banal sentences are strewn together and it all sounds strangely familiar - borrowed from, the ‘stuff of everyday life’ – achieving a subtle kind of political or personal commentary...
