Overview

This July S│2 London presents works by British sculptor Ewen Henderson (1934-2000) in Gallery Two. Henderson attended Camberwell College of Art in 1965 to study ceramics under Lucie Rie and Hans Coper. Though academically trained, Henderson’s practice quickly transformed into new expressive style with irregular, asymmetrical forms and experimental glazes and textures. Clay, or as Henderson called it, ‘fluxed earth,’ became the material that the artist would continuously challenge and reinvent throughout his life. His work can be found in the permanent collections of some of the world’s major museums such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, The Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
