Rachel Libeskind : The Circumcision of Christ and Modern Oblivion
4 Oct-31 Oct 2016
Rachel Libeskind will present a series of tapestries titled The Circumcision of Christ. Through these works the artist uses her interest in Christian iconography to explore a highly important story from early Christian narrative. Using medieval and renaissance paintings of the circumcision of Christ as source material, Libeskind seeks to re-tell the story in a contemporary setting. Libeskind aims to challenge the viewer to look beyond the Catholic perception and provide a platform unveiling the links between religion and sexuality, tolerance and reconciliation. To enhance the message of nowadays consumerism the tapestries have been made by Walmart in the USA.
