Roman Road is delighted to host LDN, a pioneering exhibition by British artist Anthony Cairns. Comprising a selection of his aluminium prints, the show presents a unique vision of England’s capital a constant theme in Cairns’ work. His black and white images document a different side of generic London: an urban landscape undergoing perpetual modernisation. Devoid of colour and with few empirical references, Cairns’ LDN takes us on a dreamlike journey through of the city’s streets. With a profound interest in traditional printing methods, his practice is rooted in chemical-based techniques. His 35mm transparencies are part-developed, solarized, and then re-developed before being printing onto pre-coated aluminium sheets. The spills of this process cross paths with the finished image, revealing that this method is full of contingencies, alike life in the city.
