Warren Garland : The Head Fountain

16 Jan-22 Feb 2014

West Lane South
London SE16 4NY

Overview

Warren Garland is a London-based filmmaker and visual artist. Garland's work is an investigation into the grammar of cinema and the relationship between visual art, the cinematic experience and everyday life. The Head Fountain is a re-examination of Ayn Rand's contentious 1949 film, The Fountainhead, based on Rand's novel of the same title. Garland's transformation of the film's sequence disrupts the narrative structure, creating an uneasy sense of absurdity in which strange pauses, silences and moments that exist in the original film become the abstracted elements of a new kind of cinematic tension. The exhibition will be accompanied by an original text by artist, writer and lecturer Paul O'Kane.
