Katie Sims : Opening Gambit

12 Oct-10 Nov 2012

Hoxton Art Gallery
London EC2A 3PE

Overview

Although this is her first solo show in London Sims’ work has already been celebrated with two solo shows in the UK. In January this year curator Pryle Berhman described Sims as 'one to watch' from Britain’s new generation of artists in the article ‘How to spot the next Damien Hirst’ - The Independent. Sims is known for paying homage to masters from the early Renaissance and Baroque periods. A particular theme that runs through her practice is the subversion of classical and mythological constructs seen in masters such as Mantegna and Poussin.
