Maria Chevska & Simon Morley : Guest from the Future
26 Oct-12 Dec 2011

A collaboration between artists Maria Chevska and Simon Morley which takes Russian poet Anna Akhmatova’s meeting with philosopher Isaiah Berlin in Leningrad in 1945 as its starting-point and includes painting, sculpture and video. The exhibition takes its title from Akhmatova’s description of Berlin in her ‘Poem Without a Hero’. In the darkest days of Stalinist oppression, she envisages Berlin as holding out the hope that one day there would be a culture of freedom.
