DIANA THATER: TIGERS AND OTHER PEOPLE

26 Sep 2009-3 Jan 2010

Overview

Thater’s work blurs the boundaries between spaces: the flat screens of video, the architectures that enclose them and the spaces inside viewers’ heads. Her pieces create ambient, immersive and intensely colourful environments, with animals as subject matter, manipulated through innovative editing techniques and light saturation to create something that transcends the natural world and the confines of architecture. This installation is based on film footage of rescued female tigers playing at a big cat sanctuary in California. Walking through the gallery, flooded with amber light, the viewer literally steps into and becomes part of the work as their shadow interplays with the piece.
