Overview

Inspired by the artists' travels to the snowy mountains of the Canadian Rockies and developed during research at the Banff Arts Centre, VISITOR investigates the experience of place: real and invented panoramas illustrate the beauty and strangeness of the natural world. Vermilion Lake is a full-size replica of a trappers’ cabin, which houses an interactive virtual environment including a rowing boat which visitors are invited to row. where the bears are sleeping is a film depicting monochromatic imagery of glaciers, forests and frozen landscapes. Employing techniques used in video games, the exhibition plays with our apprehension of different forms of reality. Gibson / Martelli work together as igloo. Their first work won them a BAFTA nomination and their installations, video works, online projects and performances have featured in international exhibitions and festivals including the 52nd Venice Biennale. VISITOR is a touring exhibition produced in association with artsdepot. Commissioned by the Henry Moore Foundation and Arts Council England. Supported by The Banff Centre, Canada.
