Rachel Whiteread : Detached

11 Apr-25 May 2013

Gagosian, Britannia St.
London WC1X 9JD

Overview

Rachel Whiteread is one of Britain’s leading sculptors, who first came to public attention with her 1993 sculpture “House”, a life-sized replica of the interior of a condemned terrace house in London’s East End. The exhibition at Gagosian’s Britannia Street gallery sees Whiteread’s characteristic reversal of negative and positive space in all new works. In several works the interiors of a garden shed are filled in with concrete, making strange the everyday, and solidifying the empty space around us.
