Overview

Christine Hillier presents an exibition of paintings, preparatory studies and sketches in conte, charcoal and pastels. Placing a strong emphasis on drawing, as the most immediate way of making observations, ideas and feelings explicit, Hillier describes the increasingly vulnerable surroundings of landscape and woodland, seeking continuity in the ancient tracks that run through the land. Her work is rooted in specific landscapes including the Chilterns, the Ridgeway path and the North Pennines, her images are shaped by the rhythms, moods, tensions and transient elements of familiar, yet changing environments. Exhibiting at Margaret Harvey Gallery, 7 Hatfield Road, St Albans Gallery opening hours: Wednesday to Saturday, 12.30pm-5.30pm
