Kathy Prendergast : the grey before dawn, part II

23 Oct-21 Nov 2009

Kerlin Gallery
Dublin 2

Overview

The central themes of Prendergast's work; longing, belonging, identity and the meaning of place, continue to take centre stage in this understated, yet powerful, body of work, which is the second show in the series entitled 'the grey before the dawn'. The exhibition will include a new series of large map drawings that develop the artist's ongoing project of creating an emotional Atlas of the World. With her unwavering attention to detail, Prendergast has transformed generic maps of Europe into mesmerising views of a night sky where towns and cities become complicated constellations of planets and stars. The exhibition will also include a number of ambitious and highly accomplished, unique bronze sculptures that transform everyday objects such as a hearth rug or a coffee table into poignant works of delicacy, emotion and memory.
