Overview

Israeli/British artist Amikam Toren returns to Ikon with two film selections, Carrots (2008) and Refreshments (2009). Based on true stories, narratives of experience from the artist’s life, they are strangely moving tales touched with humour and edged with the surreal. They are filmic equivalents of vignettes, verbalised accounts superimposed onto unedited footage of locations where remembered events actually happened. These places, after the story-telling, are transformed from being unremarkable into sites of loaded melancholy.
