Overview

Malene merges applied art, design and fine art to create ceramic sculpture, installation and furniture designs, incorporating digitally printed fabrics and wallpaper based upon photographic interpretations of hand-modelled ceramics. Utilising traditional craft skills, technology, tactility and texture to achieve a trompe l’oeil effect in a collection of multi-dimensional works, Malene has created a stunning, absorbing and uncanny experience. Craft Emergency is Aspex’s open submission competition for contemporary designers and makers and has attracted a great deal of interest from artists in the UK and abroad. The inaugural Craft Emergency in 2013 was won by letter carver and stone mason Thomas Appleton. A preview will be held on 1 April, 6 - 8pm.
