9 SHEDS OPEN AIR SUMMER EXHIBITION
Sep 18 - 25, 2010
To celebrate the beginning of British Summer, Sartorial Contemporary Art has invited artists to interact with 9 sheds situated on a roof terrace overlooking Kings Cross. THE SHED is the intersection between the inside and outside, a British symbol of sanctuary that opens a new world of dreams and possibilities.

Was the original gallery space making Gretta Sarfaty claustrophobic and trapped once more? She has been using the sheds as a space to store her many lives. Here past experiences are combined with new experimentation and transformation.

Jun 25 - Sep 19, 2010
Nothing is Forever celebrates the completion of the SLG’s £2 million building project, bringing together wall paintings, drawings and text pieces by 20 British and international artists.

Seamlessly integrating art and architecture, and with each work destined to be embedded in the fabric of the buildings when painted over at the end of the show, Nothing is Forever marks an important and transitional moment in the South London Gallery’s history. As the institution expands into a formerly derelict house and a new building incorporating the surviving walls of a former lecture theatre and library, the exhibition draws visitors through the SLG’s new and existing spaces with a variety of approaches to making art directly on the walls.

REANIMATION LIBRARY HACKNEY BRANCH
Sep 3 - Oct 16, 2010
The Reanimation Library is an independent library based in Brooklyn, New York. It is a collection of books that have fallen out of mainstream circulation. Outdated and discarded, they have been culled from thrift stores, stoop sales, and throw-away piles across the country and given new life as resource material for artists, writers, and other cultural archaeologists.

Reanimation Library | Hackney Branch will consist of a small selection of books from the main
library and a set of locally acquired books that will be made available for the general public to
work with in the gallery space for the duration of the show. The branch library at SPACE will also feature an exhibition of artists’ responses to a treasured volume in the library’s collection, Inkblot Perception and Personality: Holtzman Inkblot Technique (University of Texas Press, 1961).

Click to enlargeMARCUS COPE DON'T FILL MY HEAD...
Aug 5 - Sep 5, 2010 FINAL WEEK
Cope’s work as a painter liberates itself from all easy categorisation by presenting himself and us with problems not to solve but to question. Again and again. The image-maker simultaneously as iconoclast, perhaps: not dilettante eclecticism, but a sardonic joy and (at one and the same time) delighted cynicism at the limitless (im)possibilities of painting. Of course he can paint photo-realistically (who couldn’t in any case learn?) Of course he can adapt tropes, seize on motifs, deconstruct the canvas, make a mess. But there's more, there’s always more: with energy, imagination and sly wit each painting thwarts its own outcome (what, Cope might ask, is the point of painting when the result is a foregone conclusion?) Within each canvas there are points at which, the result already apparent he (clearly) takes off at once down some non-signposted path.

This is it.

Oct 7 - 31, 2010
Images, objects and written words form intellectual and emotional propositions that allude to real and metaphorical situations and landscapes. These new works draw together diverse concerns by opening up a formal space between text and the art object and offer the possibility of the poem as painting and the object as poem. This space-specific installation is made as a result of a residency at the Performing Arts Forum, France, and includes a publication made in collaboration with the writer and curator Chris Fite-Wassilak.

IN DREAMS
Sep 8 - Oct 2, 2010
Timothy Taylor Gallery is delighted to present In Dreams, a group exhibition featuring works on paper by artists including Armen Eloyan, Volker Hueller, Norbert Schwontkowski, Kiki Smith and Rose Wylie.

From idiosyncratic figurative narratives to more fragmented and abstracted compositions, the works in this exhibition are linked by their maker’s desire to construct hermetic alternative worlds. In ways similar to the logic experienced when dreaming, these artist’s drawn fictions give rise to impossible or incongruous episodes that nevertheless appear convincing when considered within their given context. The lone figures that occupy several of the compositions featured in this exhibition bear testimony to a solipsist tendency in many studio practices. Here a total emersion in medium and process leaves only enough room for a projected equivalent of the maker.

MICHAEL PATTERSON-CARVER
Sep 8 - Oct 2, 2010
Timothy Taylor Gallery is delighted to present an exhibition of drawings by American artist Michael Patterson-Carver. This will be his first solo show in London and continues the gallery’s Viewing Room programme.

Born in 1958, Patterson-Carver's life and career have been shaped by his exposure as a young child to the US civil rights movement. His art and life are now inseparable. The artist’s drawings are a refreshingly frank look at the political realm, and many are allegories of well-known conspiracy theories.

Patterson-Carver's work expresses - both through its mode of address and what it reveals - an essential challenge to the dominant culture. It embodies the very notion of the power of the individual's conscience and witness-bearing, and the continuing belief in art as a means of effecting change.

JESSICA JACKSON HUTCHINS
Oct 13 - Nov 6, 2010
Timothy Taylor is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition in London by the Portland based American artist Jessica Jackson Hutchins.

Hutchins’ mixed media sculptures, prints and works on paper explore themes pertaining to motherhood, domesticity, and the precariousness of human relationships.

Using papier-mache, furniture, old clothing, and glazed ceramics, Hutchins builds up lumpen organic masses that recall recumbent figures. Her sculptures are almost always anthropomorphic - cups and vases come to signify hands and larger pairs of conjoined handmade vessels stand for embracing human figures.

RYAN MCLAUGHLIN
Oct 13 - Nov 6, 2010
Timothy Taylor Gallery is delighted to present a solo exhibition by Berlin-based American artist Ryan McLaughlin.
In recent years Ryan McLaughlin's paintings have taken their inspiration from a range of sources including historical and imagined sports heroes of the American baseball leagues, modern medicine, and amateur botany.
Characterised by fixed rules, codes, and subsequently a lack of ambiguity, these areas of interest and their accoutrements are completely at odds with the nebulous nature of painting practice. McLaughlin's compositions inhabit and acknowledge this zone of difference - between logic or rational systems and the absurdities of image making - and celebrate the irony of affirmation.
