GABRIELLA SANCHEZ : ROUGH RENDERINGS OF SHARP IMAGES
Apr 13 - May 12, 2021
Taymour Grahne Projects is pleased to present 'Rough Renderings of Sharp Images', a solo exhibition by LA-based artist Gabriella Sanchez (b. 1988), opening on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

Gabriella Sanchez is a multidisciplinary artist, whose practice is largely influenced by her background in graphic design. The elements of typography, text, form and color play a central role in her visual vocabulary, referencing artists who also utilize script in their work. Such examples are John Baldessari, Bruce Nauman and the collaborative works by Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, all of which have largely shaped Sanchez’s artistic identity. However, Gabriella takes a whole new approach to show how the (art) world contextualizes artists who use the same 'language', but come from different backgrounds.

Apr 14 - 25, 2021
Private view Wed Apr 14 10am - 6pm
The concept of home is timeless, both in human history and as depicted throughout art history. From our earliest dwellings to modern houses, homes have provided safety and shelter, and served as the space for our interiority – our habits, routines, mores and dynamics. It is where individual identity is crafted and expressed. These ideas have taken on a new meaning in light of lockdowns and stay at home orders. Seemingly overnight, our inner worlds have become our entire worlds, our home rituals even more sacred. The idea for Contemporary Domesticity has been on my mind for a while, as I have always wanted to explore how contemporary artists engage with domestic space: from the mundane to the decorative, how these spaces hold their lives, their meals, family gatherings, pictures and heirlooms, quiet spaces, books and flowers.
The artist’s home is also where I find myself spending so much time in, as many of the studio visits I do throughout the year are within artists’ homes. I often find that the home says so much about the artist, the way they work, live, and what they choose to surround themselves with. I find my eyes wandering around the home, trying to piece together the puzzle of the person. I also find the experiences of these home visits so rewarding, filled with generosity, hospitality, and warmth, offering true insight into the person behind the artwork.

Click to enlargeVIEWING ROOM | CONNIE HARRISON SOMEWHERE BETWEEN
Mar 13 - Apr 18, 2021
An array of materials and layers are condensed in Connie Harrison's paintings. Through surfaces and their variations, compositions emerge slowly through a process of layering and the stripping away of wax and oil paint. Harrison presents a painting with the basic tangibility of a sculpture or a sculpture with the graphic vigour of a painting. She is interested in how a work can sit simultaneously between abstraction and figuration.

Connie Harrison (b.1993) graduated from Chelsea College of Arts in 2016. Recent exhibitions include The Invitational at Unit 1 Gallery, Open Call with Delphian Gallery, Small is Beautiful at Flowers Gallery and British Painting II at Bermondsey Project Space.

LOUNGE | OLGA SUCHANOVA : JOURNEYS
Mar 13 - Apr 18, 2021
Journeys is the personal exploration of the mystery of being through photography, printmaking and painting. My work lies at the intersection of light, space, time and energy. If we insist there should be things to be observed, these things come about through our constructing. A reality we can know that is independent of our observing. According to D. Bohm ‘We observe observing.’ I somehow learn to sense its presence and movement in order to bring my own life into harmony. I act such an observer and follow my own path of life and these artworks are responses to it.

Click to enlargeARTURO HERRERA : FROM THIS DAY FORWARD
Mar 16 - May 22, 2021
‘Can I make something so clear ambiguous? Can I uproot it? In which ways is the baggage that we bring to the new image relevant to the vivid recollections within our cultural context? I am attracted to juxtaposing invented images and readymade images without establishing explicit relations between elements.’ — Arturo Herrera

For his fourth exhibition at Thomas Dane Gallery, Arturo Herrera continues his examination of modernist legacies and contemporary image culture with a selection of new collages, immersive wall painting and bookmaking. Herrera’s use of collage contaminates the optical status of images by creating a specifically composed aggregate. The contradictory meanings of historical source material often exist in fragmented contiguity with invented abstraction, figurative forms, printed motifs, and animation. For this exhibition at No.3 Duke Street, which displays Herrera’s new book From This Day Forward (2020), Herrera scrutinises the mechanics of print and bookmaking to enrich the liminal space between painting, print and collage.
