Click to enlargeMICHELLE STUART: THE NATURE OF TIME
Jun 1 - Jul 28, 2018
Alison Jacques Gallery announces our first solo exhibition of work by Michelle Stuart (b.1933, Los Angeles, California). Featuring work from 1967-2017, this exhibition spans 50 years of Stuart’s practice.

Since the 1970s, Michelle Stuart has been a pioneer of non-traditional, often organic materials, creating works about transformation which collapse memory, time and place. The artist’s work addresses the metaphysical while remaining profoundly rooted in its own materiality.

Click to enlargeSAEMUNDUR THOR HELGASON : FELLOWSHIP OF CITIZENS
Jun 1 - 30, 2018
Fellowship of Citizens is London-based artist Saemundur Thor Helgason’s first solo exhibition in London. The exhibition will formally launch the interest group Félag Borgara (or in English ‘Fellowship of Citizens’) founded by Saemundur Thor Helgason in Reykjavik in October 2017, which aims to lobby for basic income in Iceland through apolitical means.
Part of arebyte’s 2018 programme Islands, the interest group seeks to demonstrate the feasibility of a financing scheme which operates as an economic island, a microcosmic financial system, lobbying for basic income in Iceland. The work operates on a national scale due to legal restrictions, but financially supports BIEN (Basic Income Earth Network), an international organisation that advocates for basic income worldwide.

Dinu Li’s second solo exhibition at Danielle Arnaud brings together for the first time a newly completed trilogy of films entitled, The Anatomy of Place (2018). Shot over a ten-year period, the trilogy includes: Ancestral Nation (2007), Family Village (2009) and Nation Family (2017). The films amalgamate Li’s research from the past ten years, combining Super 8 footage, video, animation, performance, found images and personal archives. They are geographically specific to China, and invite questions relating to conflating histories and the essence of place.

Fragmented Dialogues, an exhibition in collaboration with CF-LART London that brings together the work of conceptual artist Mario Fonseca and photographer Mauricio Valenzuela. Both Fonseca and Valenzuela worked in Santiago, Chile, during the 1970s and 1980s. Despite two seemingly very different bodies of work, both artists intrinsically shared a strong dialogue around the notions of absence and prohibited identity

May 17 - Jul 20, 2018
Language Strategies presents a collection of artists whose work, in varied ways, engages with the challenges of communicating. The majority of the artists deal directly with the political topics of migration, fake news, discrimination and bureaucracy, while others engage with the potential presented to you when using language in alternative ways. Brought together these artists address how, as George Orwell claimed, language could be ‘an instrument which we shape for our own purposes.’ Featuring artists based in Vienna and London, there is not one singular plan, nor a short-term tactic, nor definitive solution. The artists’ works cover sculpture, video, collective production, works on paper, sound and performance. Through these varied artistic languages, varied strategies for communication emerge. Exhibiting artists: Alaa Alkurdi (Vienna), Alexander Jackson Wyatt (Vienna), Andrea Maurer (Vienna), Eva Schach (London), Jennifer Walshe (London), Marika Schmiedt and collaborators (Vienna), and Shao-Jie Lin (London).

ALLYSON STRAFELLA : FIELD
May 18 - Jul 7, 2018
Instead of traditional drawing tools Allyson Strafella (b.1969) has been working with typewriters, standard and custom built, for over two decades. The artist remarks: “I began drawing out of the need to communicate, to find my own language. I was looking for a way to record my thoughts and ideas and a typewriter was a tool that could keep up with my thoughts. However, I employed no rules of the written language: no capitalization, no punctuation, no paragraphs. The writing slowly transformed - the words left the page and what remained has become my language: drawing.”

Jun 8 - Sep 15, 2018
The exhibition highlights Bevan’s intense thematic investigations over the past three decades of architectural constructions, trees, and imagined landscapes, each connected by a unifying elemental structure. In addition, this exhibition explores the cohesive yet dynamic evolution of Bevan’s work with the introduction of his new Place, Skylight and Throat paintings, as well as languid and emotive progressions of his Trees series.
