AKIKO TAKIZAWA : OVER THE PARCHED FIELD
Jan 18 - Mar 1, 2012
Private view Wed Jan 18 6pm - 8pm
Akiko Takizawa is a Japanese artist based in London. The exhibition, ‘Over the Parched Field’, showcases a selection of Takizawa’s photographs since 2006, including new works made especially for the exhibition. This is Takizawa’s first solo show in London.
Her latest series of photographs were taken in a volcanic mountain area, Osorezan in Aomori, where people go to talk to their deceased family members through a medium. Aomori is in the Tohoku area where local people live in a traditional close-knit society to survive in the severe natural environment. Takizawa says that Osorezan (which means ‘Fear Mountain’) is one of the few places where her soul feels purely happy, even though the place sharpens her sense of isolation and solitude.

Mar 6 - Apr 17, 2012
Private view Tue Mar 6 6pm - 8pm
Patterns of Shadows is derived from her research in Kyoto in 2011 as part of a Artist in Residence project with collaboration with composer Professor Monty Adkins. The paintings draw upon colour, pattern, rhythm and vibration, associated with kimono fabrics and katagami stencils, and frequently juxtapose these with quieter, understated greys, shadows and subtle interplays of light. These extractive works observe distinctions within Japanese visual culture. www.pip-dickens.com
