LINDA BENGLIS IN CONVERSATION WITH GREGOR MUIR
Feb 10, 2012 1:15pm
talk/event American sculptor Lynda Benglis joins us for this lunchtime talk with ICA Director Gregor Muir to discuss her practice and the changing shape of culture in the 21st century.
Benglis is known primarily for her wax paintings and poured latex sculptures, and rose to prominence during the 1960s and 70s, a time when her singular practice both intersected with and transcended the categories of post-Minimalism and feminist art. Alongside her sculptural output, Benglis created a radical body of work in video, photography, and media interventions that explore notions of power, gender relations, and role-playing. Tickets £5.

BRUCE NAUMAN
Jun 18 - Sep 16, 2012
DAYS is a “sound sculpture” consisting of a continuous stream of seven voices reciting the days of the week in random order. Fourteen suspended speakers are installed in two rows with one voice emanating from each pair of speakers as the visitor passes between them. The work invokes both the banality and the profundity of the passing of each day, and invites reflection on how we measure, differentiate, and commemorate time.
Sound Works 100 artists from a variety of sources including the ICA and major institutions and galleries worldwide will be invited to submit sound works in response to DAYS. Broadcast online via a dedicated website, the ICA will become a platform for sound-based artworks that engage with the passing of time, and humanity’s attempts to quantify it.
