DINU LI : YESTERDAY IS HISTORY, TOMORROW IS MYSTERY
Jun 3 - Sep 5, 2010
FINAL WEEK ‘Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is Mystery’ is a solo show by Dinu Li, a UK and China based artist, featuring past and recent works, plus a work from a new commission for QUAD. Li’s exhibition illuminates his continuous research into the structures defining contemporary China’s cultural development. Li draws upon a rich archive of materials including films, drawings, family snapshots, old postcards, and propaganda imagery, to reconstruct a complex world of fantastical imagination, against the backdrop of a historical and political epoch of time.
GROUND LEVEL:HAYWARD TOURING CURATORIAL OPEN II
Sep 18 - Oct 31, 2010
Artists include: Maria Thereza Alves; The Atlas Group; Ricardo Basbaum; Heath Bunting and Kayle Brandon; Center for Land Use Interpretation; Simon Evans; Yolande Harris; Christian Philipp Müller; Eyal Weizman and Stephen Willats.
Ground Level brings together international artists who perform their own personal forms of cartography. The resulting works suggest maps and surveys, but rather than portraying a singular worldview they put forward idiosyncratic readings of language, peoples and signs, as well as geography. The exhibition is curated by Kit Hammonds, winner of the 2010 Hayward Curatorial Open, a platform for innovative curatorship in the UK.
