PETER CAMPUS : OPTICKS
Dec 11, 2009 - Feb 14, 2010
We are delighted to be able to bring together in the Gallery three of the Peter Campus' seminal close-circuit camera pieces of video art from the early ‘70s, together with beautifully poetic new commissioned works created for the BFI. The exhibition is also accompanied by a retrospective of Campus’ video work taking place in our cinemas and we will be welcoming the artist on stage.

MAT COLLISHAW : RETROSPECTRE
Feb 26 - May 9, 2010
British artist Mat Collishaw (b.1966) has been commissioned by the BFI Gallery to explore the work of legendary Georgian/Armenian film director and artist Sergei Paradjanov and create a new commission in response to it. The project fuses sculpture and the moving image in an atmospheric work evoking the spirit of Paradjanov and forms part of 2010’s celebrations of his work and legacy. A season of Paradjanov films in the BFI Southbank cinemas complements the show.

APICHATPONG WEERASETHAKUL : PHANTOMS OF NABUA
May 14 - Jul 11, 2010
This is the first London solo exhibition by Apichatpong Weerasethakul (b.1970), a distinctive artist and filmmaker who has been creating work for both cinema distribution and galleries with astounding results. A regular of the Cannes Film Festival, and a nominee for the 2010 Hugo Boss Prize, Weerasethakul has created Phantoms of Nabua, an ethereal portrait of a town in north east Thailand, using natural and artificial light to exude the comfort of home, a sense of destruction, and to explore place and memory. Commissioned by Animate Projects, with Haus der Kunst in Munich and FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology).
