As the third studio1.1 artist in residence, Damian Griffiths will be presenting five shows in 2010 under the title 'the Humiliations of Man'. With photography as a source, his work will call that source into question, employing theory and practice to delineate and explode the medium's limits, and also our expectations of what a photographer might produce.

Images, objects and written words form intellectual and emotional propositions that allude to real and metaphorical situations and landscapes. These new works draw together diverse concerns by opening up a formal space between text and the art object and offer the possibility of the poem as painting and the object as poem. This space-specific installation is made as a result of a residency at the Performing Arts Forum, France, and includes a publication made in collaboration with the writer and curator Chris Fite-Wassilak.
