Apr 27 - May 27, 2017
Annka Kultys is pleased to present an exhibition of recent paintings by the New York-based artist, Anne Vieux, marking the artist’s first show with the gallery in London.

Anne Vieux is interested in the optics of the computer screen, and its implications on the perception of abstract painting. This concern is translated in her paintings through visual reverberations springing from the mistranslation and slips of scale that come with digital reproductions of material surfaces. Images of holographic, translucent or gradient paper are captured and manipulated digitally via layers of warping and repetition, then printed on microfiber fabric. As a final manipulation, touches of airbrushed acrylic paint are added. This fusion of digital, photographic, and painterly procedures evokes but ultimately embraces the tension between physicality and intangibility.

Click to enlargeTHE PROBLEM WITH HAVING A BODY...
Apr 6 - May 14, 2017
Private view Sat May 6 6pm - 9pm
Across generations and geographical and political contexts, the artists in this group exhibition share a concern with the way the female body occupies, structures and integrates with its surrounding space. The problem with having a body / is that it always needs to be somewhere will suggest correlations and reciprocities between the practices of Heidi Bucher, Kiki Kogelnik, Zilia Snchez and Ana Vieira in the 1960s and 1970s and recent work by Alexandra Bircken, Juliana Cerqueira Leite, Paul Maheke and B. Ingrid Olson. Methods of casting and the direct contact between the body and the material are prevalent in the exhibition, exploring the human scale, performativity and spatiality through movement and physical labour.

Apr 27 - May 14, 2017
Private view Fri Apr 28 6pm - 9pm
‘[The] simple act of tying a knot is an adventure in unlimited space ... an excursion that is limited only by the scope of our own imagery and the length of the rope makers coil.'

Clifford Ashley, The Ashley Book of Knots

From 27th April to 14th May, Lewisham Art House will present KNOTS, an exhibition of new work by Shiree Allen, Nancy Edwards, Jo Evans and Liz Workman.

Knots are everywhere in our daily life, often overlooked but always invaluable. Working in print, photography, sculpture and works on paper, each artist has responded to the theme of knots: the literal (tangled, connected, binding, tension, repetition); the psychological and emotional (stomach knots, ‘certain knot of peace’, tying the knot); and the mythological (Gordian knots, Heraldic knots). A collaborative sculpture forms the centrepiece of the exhibition.
