GEORGE CHARMAN : ONCE AGAIN AND ALWAYS NEW
May 5 - 27, 2012
George Charman’s work explores modularity, abstraction and notions of dwelling relating to the perspectival and metaphysical properties of architectural space. For his solo show ’Once Again And Always New’ at Acme Project Space, Charman presents a new body of sculptural works influenced by the repetitious detail and geometric qualities evident within the work of writer Alain Robbe Grillet. Playfully subverting the structural qualities and material makeup of objects, in search of the slippage of association that releases objects from a specifc space or situation into an atmosphere of blurred transformation, Charman attempts to invoke a state of latency that suspends the desire for instant recognition of things in favour of a more speculative examining of the properties and possibilities of objects. George is one of 12 artists on Acme’s Fire Station Work/Live Programme 4.

May 4 - Jul 13, 2012
Introducing Dutch artist Jan Maarten Voskuil to the UK. Voskuil’s work transcends the boundaries between the processes of design, sculpture, painting and installation art. A ROOM FOR LONDON
Jan - Dec 2012
High up on the roof of the Queen Elizabeth Hall at London’s Southbank Centre, a riverboat appears to have come to rest – grounded, perhaps, from the retreating waters of the Thames below. A unique one-bedroom installation conceived by artist Fiona Banner and architect David Kohn, A Room for London is a visionary landmark inspired by the riverboat captained by Joseph Conrad on the River Congo in 1890, a journey echoed in Heart of Darkness. Throughout the year A Room for London becomes a studio for writers, musicians and artists and a site for a series of live performances and readings broadcast around the world. Resident writers, musicians and artists will be announced on a quarterly basis with the first season’s programme launched on Thursday 12 January 2012.
A Room for London is a collaboration between Living Architecture and Artangel, in association with the Southbank Centre, the London 2012 Festival and Arts Council England. www.aroomforlondon.co.uk

YAEL BARTANA : AND EUROPE WILL BE STUNNED
May 22 - Jul 1, 2012
A young politician makes an explosive speech in an empty stadium in Warsaw. A few years later, struck down by an unknown assailant, his body lies in state in the country’s Palace of Culture. Israeli artist Yael Bartana’s powerful films - Mary Koszmary (Nightmares), Mur I Wieża (Wall and Tower) and Zamach (Assassination) - traverse a landscape haunted by the dreams and nightmares of the 20th century in Europe and the Middle East. Bartana’s Polish trilogy made a huge impact at the 2011 Venice Biennale and is presented by Artangel in a special installation in 2012.
Venue: Hornsey Town Hall, The Broadway, Crouch End, London N8 9JJ.
Underground: Finsbury Park / Archway. Overground: Crouch Hill / Hornsey
Hours: Tues / Wed 1-8pm, Thurs / Fri 1-9pm, Sat / Sun 12-6pm. FREE, no booking required.

AENEAS WILDER : VOID
through May
In a void that is a construction site, an installation made of hundreds of pieces of wood, self-supporting & spanning the space until it collapses as and when. A live webcam feed, including of the builders working alongside, projects into the gallery during the duration of the installation.
Aeneas Wilder’s work can be read as about identity and architecture. About self-built monuments that create institution identities, and how they get challenged by time. About how we read our bodies, relative to our environment: protected and sheltered, or humble and vulnerable. In this proposed work, we overlay another dimension: the physical (the work exists) and the virtual (we can only see it through webcam).
GALLERY ON SABBATICAL

Gallery will be on sabbatical from the close of "Void" exhibition. Please check website for details.
